Kalin Named New Head Men’s Soccer Coach

ARLINGTON, Va. – Marymount University’s Director of Athletics Jamie Reynolds is proud to announce the newest addition to the athletics department, as the Saints revealed Nathan Kalin as the Head Coach for men’s soccer.

“I am humbled and honored to have been selected to lead the Marymount men’s soccer program,” said Kalin. “I am beyond excited about the future growth and the vision the athletic department has for its student athletes. I cannot wait to contribute to that. I want to thank Director of Athletics Jamie Reynolds, Sarah Gustin-Hamrock and the search committee for entrusting in me to guide the Saints men’s soccer program into the future.”

Kalin is the fourth coach in program history, taking over for former coach Keith Moser, who held the title for 29 seasons.

“I want to thank Sarah Gustin-Hamrock on her leadership of the search committee,” Reynolds said about the selection of Kalin. “They had an incredibly competitive pool to work through and were able to narrow it down to a great fit for Marymount.”

Bringing 11 years of collegiate coaching experience, including 10 years as a head coach at Division III, Kalin has a decorated background in men’s soccer. His most recently role was at the University of Albany as the first assistant on the nationally-ranked men’s soccer team. While he was there, he mentored a squad that went to the America East Championship for the second-straight season and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament, defeating Maryland in the first round.

Prior to his arrival at Albany, he spent one season in 2016 at The College of New Rochelle in New York for the inaugural season of the men’s soccer team. In just four months, Kalin recruited a team of 15 freshmen that set a NCAA best record of 16-3 in a first-year program. The team led Division III that season in scoring with 4.3 goals per game, while coaching a freshman that led the country in scoring before being named ECAC Player of the Year and AD3I National Player of the Year. A record first season also had Kalin named AD3I National Coach of the Year.

The rest of his coaching career was in the Skyline Conference, working with the College of Mount Saint Vincent from 2013-15 and New York University – Polytechnic Institute from 2007-13.

In his first season with MSV, he turned a team that went 2-10-1 in 2012 to 12-5-2 in his first season in 2013, the second-best single-season turnover in NCAA Division III. In his three years with the Dolphins, he posted 33 wins while advancing to the Skyline playoffs in two of the seasons.

His longest tenure at a school was his first head coaching job at Polytech, guiding the program for six seasons, again turning around a struggling history to become a regional contender. He advanced the team to the Skyline playoffs in three of his last four seasons, while posted a program-best mark of 12-5-2 in 2010. He was also named Skyline Coach of the Year in 2009.

Beyond his coaching experience, he was also on several committees for the NCAA including be on the Regional Advisory Committee for six years and on the Soccer Rules Committee for the past three years.

“Nate brings a variety of experience to this position as a proven recruiter and positive change agent across NCAA divisions,” said Reynolds. “The student-athlete experience is where his passion is and we are looking forward to what he is going to bring to the future of our men’s soccer program. Nate is exactly what we were looking for to lead the program through the next era.”
