MC 11/12 ALL-STARS SECURE SPOT IN D5 CHAMPIONSHIP

MORRISDALE, PA – The Mifflin County Major League Softball team defeated a tough Four Leaf team Saturday evening 6-4 to advance to Wednesday’s District 5 Championship.

Mifflin County jumped out to a quick lead in the first inning.  Kendall Cavanaugh launched a triple and quickly scored on a single off the bat of Grace Paez-Davoli.  Jalee Bodtorf followed with a walk.  Davoli then scored on a single off the bat of Bailey Wyland while Bodtorf advanced to third.  Piper Specht grounded to second to plate Bodtorf, putting Mifflin County up 3-0 after one.

In the third, Bodtorf led off with a single to left and was replaced on the base paths by pinch runner Davoli.  On the next pitch, Wyland lined a double into right-center to score Davoli and make it 4-0.

Four Leaf would get on the board in the bottom of the third as Ch. Weseki beat out an infield single and came around to score on two ground outs, making the score 4-1.

In the fourth, Four Leaf led off with a Mifflin County error, a walk and a single to plate two runs.  M. Van Booth then hit a soft ground ball to force a close play at home and score the third run of the inning.  Mifflin County quickly got the next two outs to end the inning tied 4-4.

In the fifth, Marley Wilson and Marissa Peachey singled, followed by an Olivia Fisher walk to load the bases.  With two outs, Cavanaugh came through once again with a single to center to make the score 6-4 going into the final inning.

In the sixth, Specht struck out the side to secure the victory for Mifflin County.

Mifflin County had multiple hits from Cavanugh (3), Wyland (2) and Falynn Reinard (2).  On the mound, Piper Specht pitched a complete game, giving up two hits and striking out six.

The District 5 Championship game will be played at Strodes Mills on Wednesday, June 26th at 6 PM.
