MC 15s even up Series with West End

Round two.

After falling to West End 5-0 over the weekend to put them in the losers bracket, the Mifflin County 15-year old Babe Ruth team was ready for a little payback.

After winning in comeback fashion in their first game of the day versus East Fishkill, the locals rode the momentum into their second meeting with the crew from Williamsport.

It took nine innings but it would be Mifflin County that would score four in the top of the inning to tie the series and send it to a winner-take-all title tilt.

Mifflin County went into the ninth and they quickly loaded the bases.

Brycen Hassinger ran out a West End miscue.

Jaxson Pupo also reached on a pitching error, allowing both he and Hassinger to move up a base.

Cole Knable was intentionally walked to pitch to Conner Cherry.

Cherry brought in Hassinger on a grounder in the infield and West End went home with the throw but the catcher pulled his foot, giving them the lead.

Cole Schlegel brought in a run of his own as he grounded into a fielders choice allowing Pupo to score.

With two outs, Brian Yetter blasted a 2-run single, making it 7-3 going into the bottom of the inning.

With Knable on the mound, West End was shut down in the inning to give the young hurler the win.

Mifflin County started the scoring in the second.

Knable singled and then later scored on a single to right field.

West End battled back in the bottom of the inning.

Dane Armson led off with a walk and moved up a base on a wild pitch. He then scored on consecutive sacrifices by teammates Derek Gehr and Owen Arndt, tying things at one.

In the fourth inning, West End took the lead for the first time in the game as it scored two runs to take a 3-1 advantage.

Mifflin County refused to go away without a fight as they fought to tie things with two runs of their own.

Yetter led things off with a single.

Ethan Eichhorn followed with a walk .

Casey Conner singled in Yetter, cutting it to 3-2.

Eichhorn would score later in the inning to put the game to a stalemate.

From there it was a pitchers duel by Knable and West End’s Gehr as they kept both offenses off the board until the ninth where MC was able to push across the runs they needed for the win.
