MC swimmers fare well despite defeat to CD

LEWISTOWN – The Mifflin County swim team finished with eight first place finishes Thursday night in its match up against a well seasoned Central Mountain team.

Two Juniata swimmers swam strong races in exhibitions.

However, the Rams defeated the Huskies in both boys and girls action.

The girls battled Central Dauphin “tooth and nail” but came up short, falling 92-75.

The young Huskies’ boys team are still working on their game, dropping a 129-29 meet.

“This has been a difficult week. I have had hard practices. We had dryland which is lifting weights in the morning. So the fact of them having the great of swims as they did, after the hard week they have had it makes me proud,” said Mifflin County coach Gretchen Seyler. “But there are some areas that we really have to work on as turns and what not. That’s both girls and boys. They’ve had a hard week but just the fact that they came and gave it there all in their swims is saying something.

Mifflin County started off the meet in fine fashion as the girls took the top spot in the girls 200-yard medley relay. The team consisting of Ella Stuck, Hannah Bonson, Macy Becker, and Morgan Robinette finished with a time of 2:03.50.

Robinette followed up with a second place finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:18.62.

Juniata’s Emily Houtz finished with a time of 2:16.16.

Robinette was sparkling in the 100-yard freestyle picking up a first place finish with a time of 1:00.70.

Stuck took home another first place finish, this time in individual competition as she finished with a time of 2:28.00 in the 200-yard IM.

In the 100-yard backstroke, Stuck finished with a 1:06.53.

Juniata’s Houtz finished with a time of 1:11.97.

Becker’s first swim in solo competition landed her a second place nod in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 28.02. She also finished with a second in the 100-yard butterfly, posting a time of 1:07.44.

Bonson brought home another first place finish for Mifflin County in the grueling 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:47.10.

The 100-yard breaststroke also was won by Bonson as she rallied for a time of 1:15.64

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the team of Julia Montgomery, Grace Parks, Jordyn Kile and Madeline Bailey placed third with a time of 2:05.97.

Rounding out the girls evening was a first place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Becker, Stuck, Robinette and Bonson capped off the night with a time of 4:08.52.

Ethan Andrews took top honors on the boys’ side as he posted a time of 2:17.09 in the 200-yard IM.

Andrews also finished with a second place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:15.24.

Calvin Ivie was the first place winner on the boys’ side, finishing third in the 200-yard freestyle with a mark of 2:36.27.

Ivie also finished third in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:07.98.

In the boys 200-yard freestyle, Mifflin County finished in third place. The team consisting of Ethan Andrews, Ethan Patkalitsky, Aiden Hendricks and Ivie finishes their race with a mark of 1:58.80.

Clayton Hetrick placed third in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 2:11.83.

Juniata’s Jimmy Zagurskie finished with a time of 1:04.25 in the 100-yard freestyle to round out the competition on the night.
