By Kenny Varner

LEWISTOWN – After a hard fought battle on the track against State College earlier in the week, the Mifflin County track teams faced another strong opponent Thursday in Carlisle.
The Huskies played host to a dual meet as the took on the Bison and Harrisburg High School.
It was a night of strong efforts and mixed results as Carlisle came out on top in both the boys and girls meet by scores of 90-60 and 99-51, respectively.
But the Huskies were able to sweep the Cougars with a score of 125-15 for the girls and 87-59 for the boys.
It was another record setting meet for Mifflin County’s Skylar Ciccolini who was on top of all aspects of competition.
“It was a good day for Skylar. This was the second meet in a row that she established a new county record in the javelin at 160’ 2”,” said girls coach Scott Gantz. “She had a new school record in the high jump of 5’ 2”. Her younger sister, Taylor, another school record in the pole vault of 10’6”. We had school records and a lot of PRs.”
“It doesn’t get any tougher than the start we had, first you get State College and turn right around and you get Carlisle. So, it’s “Murderer’s Row” at the beginning. But I like what I see. They are competitive, their gutsy and they give you everything they have. We’ll give some people a run for there money here later in the year.”
Other than Skylar Ciciolini’s top finishes in the javelin and the high jump and sister Taylor’s top finish in the pole vault, Mifflin County has other athletes that shined in both meets.
Layla Shimp took top spots in the discus and in the shot put.
In the discus, Shimp sailed to the top spot with a throw of 108’08” and a first place in the shot put with a throw of 32’.
In the 100-meter hurdles, Mifflin County got a first place finish from Madison Bressler who topped her finish off with a time of 17.9.
The Huskies swept the javelin as Skylar Ciccolini finished first, Taylor Ciccolini finished second (105’04”) and rounding things out was Serena McConaughey (94’ 11”).

The same javelin squad that swept the Bison also swept the Cougars en route to the victory.
On the boys side, things were much tighter all the way around.
In their meet against Carlisle, the first relay showed how competitive the meet would be. Both teams came down the stretch with a chance to win but it would be the Bison that eked out the victory.
“From my standpoint it was night and day from last Tuesday. The effort we got from the kids across the board was really good,” Boys coach Scot Sechler said. “A lot of PRs. Brock Sinkus in both the 110-hurdles and the 300-hurdles. Davis Wagner had a 160 in the jav. Again, Seth Phillips and Chayce Macknair and those guys did a good job. We battled real hard.”
Sinkus led off individual competition with a 16.5 in the 110-meter hurdles. He also hit the top in the 300-hurdles with a time of 44.1.
Macknair ran away from the competition in the 1600-meter run with a finishing time of 4:42.5. The junior also looked strong in the 3200-meter run with a first place nod of 10:13.3.
Phillips took control of the 400-run with a top spot time of 51.9.
Wagner’s throw of 160’ was good enough for First in the javelin.
In the 800, Garren Wolfgang outdistanced his opponents with a 2:03.8 first place finish, rounding out the top finishers against the Bison.
In their battle with Harrisburg, the Huskies had their share of first place finishes as well.
