Mifflin County Indoor track has “medal” day at PTFCA championships

The best of the best from the Mifflin County track and field team traveled once again to the campus of Penn State to compete but this time it was for a title.

The PTFCA held its annual State Championships Sunday at Penn State University. 

When the final gun sounded, Mifflin County finished with two top 10 finishes in individual competition and a second in the Distance Medley Relay team.  

“I’m tickled to death! Its exciting. They followed the scripted,” Mifflin County assistant coach Greg Loht said about his squad. “They knew what they needed to do. They came home with the silver and it means a great deal.” 

Competing for Mifflin County at the PTFCA championships were the  Boys DMR team , Chayce Macknair in the 1600 and Brayden Harris in the 3000-meter run.

First out the gate was Macknair in the mile run.

Lining up for the gun, Macknair was in the second line of runners and broke out to a good start, staying in the middle of the pack. He continued their for the entire race as he was squeezed constantly to the outside.

However a strong finish pushed the senior long distance runner to a 6th place finish with a time of 4:24.50.

In the 3000-meter Braden Harris battled around the middle of the pack for much of his race.

He took the outside and floated back and forth between fifth and sixth place.

As the race wound down he found himself in the same position but in the end, the Husky finished ninth with a time of 9:00.96.

In their final event, the Mifflin County DMR team (distance medley relay.

In the medley, Macknair broke out into the lead and held it to the handoff when Lasalle College high school made their move.

With a close second, the Huskies finished with a second place time of  10:32.63.

That ended the day for Mifflin County in fine fashion.
