Newport tops East Juniata In field hockey action

The Newport field hockey team topped East Juniata 8-1 on Monday.

In the first half, Newport’s Rachel Bohn scores first off an assist by Amiyah Priebe, 28:14.

Priebe  scored goal number two off a Mallory Burns assist at 20:19.

Later Bohn called her own number at 11:15.

East Juniata’s Karah Goss scores on an unassisted goal at 3:17 left in the first.

“The girls played better than they did when we travelled to Newport.  Our defense did an outstanding job.  Rylee Shearer had a great game; she rebounded the ball and cleared it out of the circle after Emily Carolus stopped the shot,” said Tigers coach Harley Straub. “Shearer also had great drives and hustled to the ball and to recover.  Kyla Swartz stepped up many times and stopped Newport close to mid field and passed it to our offensive side.  Karah Goss scored our lone goal of the game.  Goss pressured Newport, got the ball back, and dodged around the goalie to score.  We still have things to work on, such as pressuring the ball and keeping our sticks down.  We will look to keep playing hard on Thursday.”

In the Second Half,

Newport began again on a Sophia Shoemaker  score with an assist by Bohn and Emily Kline at 12:00.

Bohn scores again on an assist by Kline at 10:41.

Kline then scored on a Maria Capozzoli assist at 7:22followed by a Lillie Harris goal at Bohn :49.
