State College tops Mifflin County for D6 title

Since the creation of Mifflin County High School, the State College and Huskies’ field hockey team has been facing each other three times a year.
The norm has has been two regular season and one for the District 6 Class AAA.
This year as been no exception as the Little Lions net the Huskies in a “winner take all” contest once again.
Mifflin County came in as the number one seed while the Little Lions were seeded two.
Like the old cliche’ “you throw out the records when these two meet” it is so true with this budding rivalry.
State College wasted little time in scoring in this game, scoring one in the first few minutes of regulation.
Mifflin County played from behind from almost the whole contest despite posting a goal late in the game.
When the buzzer sounded to end the game, State College prevailed 2-1 for the District 6 title.
In the first half, State College got the ball to start the game and Sally Stahl snuck in a shot in a crowd, making it 1-0 with 29:07 still showing on the clock.
The game was a back-and-forth competition and a battle of tempos.
With 9:42 left in the opening period, the Little Lions roped its second goal of the game. This one from the stick of Kelsie Love, putting the pressure on “the purple and black attack”.
The two went into the intermission with the Lions holding the 2-0 advantage.
Starting the second half, both defenses toughened as the game continued to be a battle of wills.
Holding onto the lead going into the final minutes, State College gave up a goal from a determined Emily Shilling, cutting the lead to 2-1.
Despite an onslaught of Mifflin County shots at the goal, the Little Lions were up for the challenge as they held onto the 2-1 victory.
