Tough night on hardwood for St. Joseph’s basketball teams Saturday

Both St. Joseph basketball teams fell short on Saturday, in front of a packed Student Life Center!  The girls got off to a slow start vs. Purchase Line, before storming back to take the lead midway through the third quarter.  But, Purchase Line slowed the Wolves offense late, while relocating their own rhythm to pick-up the 51-41 win.  The Wolves were lead by Seniors, Selena Mann, with 19 and Denaya Poston-Cooper, with 9.  They will play Blacklick Valley in the District VI A Consolation game on Tuesday Night at Tyrone High School, with a 6:00pm tip.

On the Boys’ side, the Wolves went down to the wire, before falling in overtime to the #3 seeded, Juniata Valley Hornets.  Saint Joe’s lead by five at halftime, and the second half was back and forth, with several ties before Juniata Valley took a late lead.  After tying the game with under 30 seconds left in the fourth, the Wolves forced a jump ball on a block from senior, Ryan Peachey.  Saint Joe’s had the ball with :08 left in the tied game.  Leading scorer, Jack Mangene just missed a contested floater at the end of regulation, and the game went to overtime.  In the extra period, Juniata Valley made some big shots down the stretch, and the Wolves found themselves down three with the ball on the last possession.  They were unable to get a good look from beyond the arc, and the game ended with the Hornets on top.  The Wolves were lead by Mangene’s Double-Double (21 and 16 rebs), Cameron Khoza (16), and Brendan Scanlon (15).  Juniata Valley’s Cam Collins lead all scorers with 24.  The boys will now play Blacklick Valley in the District VI A Consolation game at Tyrone High School at 7:30pm.
