Congratulations to Jessa Wright, who was a stand out three-point shooter for Mifflin County, as she led her Mt. Aloysius College basketball team to a second place finish. It was the highest finish that the team has ever had. She finished her career with over 700 points. She led the league with a 17.9 points per game average.
Last season, Wright was voted AMCC Newcomer of the Year.
According to local media outlets, “Defending AMCC Newcomer of the Year, sophomore Jessa Wright has been the backbone of team this season.”
Quite a compliment for the sophomore who posted an impressive 42.2 shooting percentage from the field. She also helped lead to her team to an appearance in the AMCC Championship game against Hilbery.
In the contest, Wright finished with a 10-point effort in the 76-52 loss.
The Mounties finished with a 17-8 record.
She was also honored with post season nominations.
According to Mount Aloysius Athletics website, Wright was named First Team All-Conference after a 2017-2018 campaign in which the sophomore forward led the conference with a 41.4 shooting percentage from three-point range and hit a conference-best 75 shots from behind the arc. Wright finished fourth in the conference overall at 17.8 points per game while shooting an efficient 46.2 percent from the field, which was good for fifth in the conference. Wright also led the Mounties and finished seventh among conference players at 7.8 rebounds per game, and also concluded the season in a tie for fifth in the conference with 2.5 steals per game.
Though her career was brief, Wright finished her career in grand style with a berth in the title tilt.
Quite an achievement from the sophomore.
