Yeagertown tops Belleville for Big Valley Minor League Super Series title

BELLEVILLE – Everything was on the line Monday as the Yeagertown Chiefs met up with theBelleville Lions for the 2019 Big Valley Minor League title game.

Patience took center stage as both teams took advantage of walks to put runs on the board.

In the end, Yeagertown got the best of Belleville, winning 14-4.

The Chiefs pounded out seven hits while the Lions had two.

Leading the way offensively was Yeagertown’s Gavin Norton who had two hits and scored twice.

Belleville had hits from Isiah Sharp and Landon Yoder.

In the first inning, the Chiefs held the Lions scoreless as Liam Shaffer struck out three.

Shaffer led off the bottom of the inning, plastering a lead off triple.

Elijah Howser and Lucas Hartung followed with walks.

Jaxon Strohecker cleared everyone but himself off the bases as he roped a triple of his own, making it 3-0. Strohecker finished off the inning with a score on a wild pitch.

With Shaffer on the mound, the Lions went down quietly in the second as he picked his fourth and fifth strike outs en route to another scoreless inning.

Yeagertown picked up where it left off in the first, offensively.

Landon Rhodes led off with a single that went down third base.

Teammate Jayden Kauffman took one for the team as he was hit by a pitch, putting runners on first and second.

Isaac Gentzel gave his team another triple and two more runs as he hit a sizzler into centerfield.

Gentzel later scored on a wild pitch, upping the lead to 7-0.

Gavin Norton walked and later scored to put his team up quickly 8-0.

But Belleville refused to go away as it tried to get back into the game.

In the top of the third, the Lions got on the board.

Carter Hartzler led off with a walk.

With one out, Kaden Yoder moves up to first on a walk as well.

Landen Yoder hustled our a soft dribbler to second for the infield hit.

With bases juiced, Troy Peachey walked and picked up the RBI when Hartzler walked home.

Landen J. Yoder also scored the RBI with a walk of his own, cutting it to 8-2.

Yeagertown added to its lead as it added three more runs in the bottom of the inning expanding its advantage to 11-2. Highlighting the inning was Gentzels second hit of the game.

Belleville continued to try to ad another run in the inning and they did just that.

Wyatt Kauffman got things started in the right direction as he took a lead off walk.

With two out, Conner Taylor walked as did teammate Jansen Yoder, loading the bases.

Carter Hartzler brought home a run as he also walked, making it an 11-3 game going into the bottom of the fourth.

Gavin Norton added to his team’s lead as he led off the bottom of the inning with a single. Shaffer followed with a walk.

Elijah Howser roped an RBI single and then with the bases loaded later in the inning, Strohecker tallied an RBI walk, upping it to 13-3 lead.

Both teams would score another run as the game would end with the Chiefs taking the contest 14-4.
