Bald Eagle Volleyball wins Home opener

WINGATE – They’re at it again!

Last season, the Bald Eagle girls’ volleyball team finished with just one loss on the year.

The Lady Eagles looked primed and ready to repeat or top last year’s run, taking a hard earned victory over Dallastown in its first game of the season.

But it wasn’t an easy one.

It took four series to get the job done once again as the Eagles are adding another chapter to its historic program each time they go out on the court 25-21, 25-14, 23-25 and 25-18.

Despite the win, Bald Eagle coach Larry Campbell knows his team could have done better and is looking for a quick turnaround by his team Saturday.

“We didn’t play well tonight. This has been the worst we looked this year. We were way too reliant on one player,” Bald Eagle Area coach Larry Campbell said. “I anxious to see how we adjust to that. We have a tournament tomorrow and I’m anxious to see how we work on that. That wasn’t really expected as we played with low expectations.”

Grace Hugar has a strong game for the Eagles as she was tough with Spikes and service points throughout the contest.

Playing its first game in front of the home crowd, the girls were in mid season form, pulling out a tight First game against Dallastown, 25-21.

In a very back and forth First game, the Eagles found themselves in an early dog fight as the visitors were trying to find the open spots on the court.

Dallastown held the first point but the Eagles fought back picking up the next two points, a side out and a service point by Samantha Arens-Ennis.

Hugar led the way with six service points in the opening game.

Bald Eagle would keep the momentum winning the second game 25-14.

This time Hugar got help on the service line from Elita Brown with three service points and Lacee Barnhart also with three.

But the third game, the Wildcats would battle their way back into the contest. As the Eagles would battle down to the wire, falling just short, 25-23.

But in the end, the Bald Eagles were able to gut it out in the fourth game taking it 25-18.

Bald Eagle Area got another strong effort from Hugar. Brown and Lexi Skripek had the hot service in the finale as she picked up four each

No time for rest for the Eagles as they travel to the Northern Cambria Tournament today.
