Central Mountain loses in extras to Milton in rain soaked contest

By Kenny Varner

MILL HALL – Trailing by a run going into their last at bats, the Central Mountain softball team rallied to force the game to go into extra innings.

However, it wouldn’t be the ending the Wildcats were hoping for as the Black Panthers rallies for three in the eighth to take home the 6-3 victory Tuesday night.

In a game that had a little bit of everything, rain down pours, a 30-minute lightning delay, a late comeback and an extra inning contest, the two teams trekked through all of the obstacles to finally finish the game over three hours after it started.

Leading the way offensively for Milton were Rachelle Campbell (2-for-4 run), Cam Guisewhite (2-for-2 3RBI).

The Wildcats got multiple hits from Riley Houser (2-for-4 2RBI), Kylie Wagner (2-for-2 2 runs).

Central Mountain scattered eight hits on the night.

“Give Milton credit they faced the same things we did. It was fair. It was a tough game. A long game,” said Central Mountain coach Fred Caldwell. “We just have to find a way to win. We have to find a way to win the games we should. I was very proud of them when the came back and tied at three. I really thought we had the momentum. I thought this is it. We are going to finish it off but we didn’t get it done. We just have to find a way to get those key hits when we need them.”

After a scoreless first inning, the Wildcats scored the first run of the contest.

Kylie Wagner singled to right field.

She advanced to second on a wild pitch and then scored on a RBI single by Riley Houser.

After keeping Milton shut out in the third, Central Mountain added another run in the bottom of the inning.

Leadoff hitter Alyssa Fisher walked. She moved up to second via a stolen base.

With two outs, Morgan Wetzel singled home Fisher, upping it to 2-0.

However, Milton took the lead in the fourth as the Black Panthers would post three runs.

Rachelle Campbell started the rally, singling to left.

She moved up a base on a fielders choice.

Cait Guisewhite singled in Campbell, cutting the lead in half to 2-1.

Emily Snyder reaches base as well to set the stage for Cam Guisewhite. Guisewhite doubles in both Snyder and Cait Guisewhite on the play, making it a 3-2 advantage.

The Milton lead would stay until the bottom of the sixth.

Wagner once again would score on another single by Houser.

Both teams held strong in the seventh and the game went into extras.

In the top of the eighth, Milton broke out with three runs to take home the victory.
