East Juniata field hockey holds Line Mountain to two goals

The East Juniata Girls field hockey team has been improving leaps and bounds lately as they only fell to Line Mountain 2-1 Thursday.

“The girls played great tonight!  They played like a team, and were able to keep it 0-0 until halfway through the first half.  The girls played the entire game, rather than having a rough first half and good second half,” said East Juniata Coach Harley Straub. “They put every effort into the entire game tonight, and it showed.  Having lost 8-1 the first time we played them and making it as close of a game as it was tonight, showed EJ field hockey will continue to fight throughout the whole game.  Coach Hart and I are so very proud of the team and how they played tonight.  We are looking to carry that through the rest of the season!”

In the first half, Line Mountain’s Abby Wolfe thanks to an assist by Cydney Lahr, put her team up 1-0 at 13:44.

East Juniata’s Kyli Dowling tied things off an assist by Becca Dietz at 4:38.

Line Mountain scores the lone goal in the second half as Lahr scored off a Wolfe assist at 12:00.

Line Mountain led in shots on goal by a 25-2 margin and led in corners by a 15-3 mark.

Saves East Juniata’s goalie Emily Carolus had 23 saves while Line Mountain keeper Olivia Smeltz had one.

In the JV Game, Line Mountain topped East Juniata 4-0.

East Juniata’s overall record is 0-6-1 with a League record of 0-5.

The Tigers next game is Monday when they host Huntingdon at 4:00 p.m.
