SCs Urbas takes top honors at King of the Mountain

MILL HALL – State College PIAA runner-up Cole Urbas won the 195-pound crown to lead eight Centre County grapplers on the medal stand at the King of the Mountain tournament on Saturday.

Urbas picked up the easiest tournament victory of his stellar career, winning by medical forfeit over Jake Miller of Boyertown. The Little Lion senior recorded three straight falls to reach the finals.

Teammates Owen Woolcott came in fifth at 126 and Harrison Schoen placed eighth at 285 pounds.

Woolcott defeated Chanz Shearer of Seneca Valley 6-3 for fifth, while Dalton Seace of Chestnut Ridge pinned Schoen in 1:51 for seventh.

Bald Eagle Area had three make the podium – David Close (fourth at 220), Dylan Bisel (fourth at 182) and Cooper Gilham (fifth at 113).

Close dropped into the consolations after losing in the semifinals to Tanner Riggle of Central Mountain, 3-2. Close advanced to the consolation finals and lost a 5-2 decision to Jackson Chilson of Wyalusing.  

Bisel suffered the same fate as his teammate – dropping a 4-0 decision to Jake Lucas of Cumberland Valley for third.

Gilham, just a sophomore, won his fifth-place match by a medical forfeit over Sammy McMonagle, the second seed, from West Chester Henderson.

Bellefonte had Ethan Richner take fourth at 152 and Ethan Rossman placed seventh at 182.

Richner fought through the wrestlebacks only to lose 5-2 top seed Cole Harrison of Philipsburg, NJ for third-place. Rossman won his final match at KOM with a 9-1 major decision over Keegan McCord of Manheim Central for seventh.

State College finished 12th in the team standings with 85.5 points. Bellefonte came in 19th with 72.5 points and BEA was 20th, half a point behind

Council Rock South won the team title with 198.5 points. Jared McGill (182) won the Outstanding Wrestler Award.
