Baublitz three peats as District 6 AA Champion and Houtz moves on to State Championship Meet

For the third straight year in a row Juniata’s Garrett Baublitz won the AA District 6 Cross Country Championships with a time of 16:28.6.  The race came down to Garrett and Bedford’s Van May running side by side with 1 mile to go.  Garrett made his big move with .3 miles to go to separate himself from May to take another District Title.  Coach Jeff Miller said “The goal for the day was to just come away with another District Title.  Garrett wanted to run a fast time, but the weather changed those plans.  We didn’t expect May to be that strong.  He ran a great race and will keep us working hard next year when Garrett tries to win his fourth title.”  The Juniata Boy’s finished 2nd out of 13 teams.  This was one place better than last year and only the second year for the school to have a Cross Country team. Five of the 7 varsity runners return next year. The top 10 overall places received medals.  The 2nd place team consisted of:
1st – Garrett Baublitz – 16:28.6
17th – James Hazard – 18:42.6
24th – Albert Heister – 19:04.4
27th – Isaak Fausey – 19:28.3
32nd – Zeb Ames – 19:36.1
42nd – Clay Yeager – 20:14.8
55th – Brody Powell – 20:54.0
The top 7 overall places received medals in the JV race.  “We had two boys finish just off the podium for the JV Boys.  I am pleased with the way they ran considering the conditions of the course by the time they had to race” Miller said.  The JV race was the last of 7 races for the day.  The course was really muddy until they ran.  The JV boys team consisted of:
9th – Yadiel Nieves-Aguirre – 20:53.8
10th – Micah Fausey – 20:55.0
40th – Noah Sheaffer – 24:48.1
49th – Kaleb Louder – 27:06.4
Kyle Louder – due to an injury he was unable to finish
Juniata Freshmen Emily Houtz advances to the PIAA State Cross Country Championships at Hershey next weekend.  She finished 11th in the girls AA race, but was the fifth individual after Central Cambria to advance.  Her time was 22:07.6.  Emily missed receiving a medal by 1 place.  Coach Jeff Miller said “Emily ran a great race.  She was sitting in 7th as a individual at the mile mark and was able to move up to fifth in the second mile and hold that spot to the finish.  I was about 100% sure Central Cambria would take the team title so I was keeping Emily informed of her position throughout the race to keep her in State qualifying position.”  Juniata didn’t have enough girls to compete in the team competition, but had two other runner compete.  Sydney Houtz finished in 35th with a time of 24:33.2 and Katrina Weber finished in 69th with a time of 35:36.50.
