Bellefonte wrestlers pick up eight pins en route to win over Tyrone

BELLEFONTE – What a home opener.

In its first dual meet of the season, the Bellefonte wrestling team made quite an impact early and often Wednesday night against Tyrone.

The Red Raiders came out and not only picked up the win but won all but two matches on the night en route to the 66-8 victory.

“We always try not to focus on the score. We just look at guys efforts, attitude and aggressiveness,” said Bellefonte coach Mike Maney. “We had to move some guys around tonight. We asked Tyler Putnam to move up to 285 and ended up getting a pin. You never know what you’re going to get in your first dual meet but I’m proud of the guys efforts tonight. We’ll get back at it tommorrow and get ready for King if the Mountain.”

With the King of the Mountain Tournament right around the corner,  Bellefonte goes into the weekend with a lot of momentum, posting a total of eight pins and two forfeits on the evening.

Starting out at 120-pounds, Bellefonte’s Aaron Little picked up the forfeit.

At 126, Bellefonte’s Lane Aikey found himself in a battle early. but was able to muscle out the decision over Hunter Walk, 7-4.

After taking an early takedown, Aikey found himself in a reversal by Walk midway through the first period.

As the first came to an end, Aikey was able to work his way back into control with a reversal of his own, leading 4-2.

Aikey upped the lead to 6-2 on a reversal after starting in the down position.

That would all he would need as he held on for the 7-4 victory.

Things were just as exciting in the 132-pound weight class. Jaden King gutted out a 4-2 decision over Mason Walls.

Walls took the lead early on the takedown but King escaped, cutting it to 2-1.

In the second, King tied the contest with another escape. He later scored a take down and was able to hold on for the 4-2 victory.

Then the Red Raiders would make quite a statement as it took the next four matches via a forfeit.

At 138, Alex Coppola dominated Dominick Maloney for most of his match before picking up a late pin at the 4:59 mark.

The winning continued at 145, the Red Raiders Brady Martin pinned Gavin Frazell at 3:31.

The pins kept coming as the match hit the 152-pound weight class when Bellefonte’s Alec Bossert pinned Jermaine Myers at 3:22.

Ethan Richner, at 160 pinned Tyrone’s Dean Grossi early in the first at 1:09.

Tyrone picked up its first win at 170 when Alex Weaver toughed our a 7-2 decision over Bellefonte matman Stephen Ivicic.

But that would be the last match the Eagles would win until the last match of the night.

Bellefonte battled back at went back to picking up four more consecutive pins, increasing the “Red and Black attacks” lead.

At 182, Ethan Rossman pinned Tyrone’s Zack Lash At 3:02.

195-pounder Tyler Benner pinned Jason Barr at 3:34 to continue Bellefonte’s dominance.

In the 220-pound weight class Bellefonte’s Max Barrier pinned Kaleb Mills at 1:13.

After moving up a weight class at 285, Tyler Putnam for the Red Raiders pinned Parker Allen at 2:57.

Bellefonte’s last win came out at 106 when Aidan O’ Shea picked up the forfeit.

Tyrone rounded out the Dual meet with a win at 113. The Eagles’ Korry Walls defeated Garrett Charles by a tech. Fall at 2:47.
